Structural documentation โ calculations, control and BR18
Structural documentation is the complete set of documentation proving that a building's load-bearing structures have been calculated, built and checked correctly. The requirement applies to almost all construction projects in Denmark and is set out in the BR18 building regulation. For most projects, DS1140 is the standard that governs the control side of that documentation. We produce your structural documentation - from calculations to control plan - so your project isn't delayed.
What structural documentation is
Structural documentation is the proof that a building's load-bearing structures - foundations, beams, columns, floor slabs and load-bearing walls - can carry the loads they're subjected to. The requirement is set out in BR18 and must be in place before a building can be signed off for use.
The documentation typically consists of a structural calculation showing the load-bearing capacity of the structures, plus a control component showing that the calculations and construction were checked along the way. It's that control component DS1140 governs.
When structural documentation is required
The requirement applies to almost every building project with load-bearing structures, but the scope depends on the project's consequence class and structural class (KK1-KK4). The more complex the structure, and the greater the consequence of a failure, the more extensive the control component of the documentation becomes.
Many developers and contractors only discover the full scope of the requirement once the certified structural engineer asks for documentation they don't have on file. It's usually more expensive to fix afterwards than to get it right from the start.
Structural documentation and DS1140
DS1140 is the standard that sets out how the control component of your structural documentation should be handled - control plan, control report and as-built documentation.

We produce structural documentation for contractors, developers and trade contractors across Denmark - from the initial overview of what your project requires, through to the finished control component the certified structural engineer needs to approve.
Missing documentation on a project that's already underway? We can often pick this up mid-project without holding up work on site.
Frequently asked questions
Is structural documentation the same as a DS1140 control plan?
No. Structural documentation is the broad term for the whole documentation requirement under BR18. DS1140 is the standard for the control component of it - the control plan, control report and as-built documentation.
Who needs to approve structural documentation?
A certified structural engineer (statiker) must approve the documentation before a building can be signed off.
What does structural documentation cost?
It depends on the size, complexity and structural class of the project. Call us for a concrete quote.
Can you help if documentation is missing partway through a project?
Yes, we can usually pick up the documentation mid-project without stopping work on site.

What does BR18 require of static documentation?
BR18 requires static documentation for almost every building with load-bearing structures. See what the requirement covers and when it applies to you.
